Summer means long days, late night bike rides, fresh berries, and burgers.
Yes it’s burger time!
Making your own veggie burgers is awesome. I’ve never been a fan of store-bought, overly processed soy-based fake meat. I don’t think it tastes very good, and as a vegetarian I don’t actually miss the taste of meat, so why would I want to eat fake meat?
No, I think veggie burgers are all about making something healthy that packs a ton of flavour. So that’s what I try to do with every burger I make! Here are some of my faves.
The key to a good veggie burger is amping up the flavour with each ingredient you add, and the first veggie burger I ever posted is all about that. These black bean and beet burgers feature roasted beets, hearty black beans, caramelized onions, and a smoky, hearty flavour that is AMAZING. Totally worth the effort (just don’t slice your finger open when making them the way I did!)
If you’re into the black bean burger idea but not loving the work that goes into making the beet burgers, these black bean and feta burgers are perfect. A little bit lower maintenance, but stuffed with feta, you won’t be short on flavour.
Sweet potatoes are great in a veggie burger. Not only do they taste amazing, they help hold the burger ingredients together. I love these sweet potato and white bean burgers…
…And these Moroccan sweet potato burgers are probably my favourite burger recipe yet!
Finally, nothing tops an excellent burger like some good accessories. These white bean and quinoa burgers are fantastic by themselves, but the mango slaw and chipotle mayo take them over the top.
So go ahead, get your veggie burger on!
